May Photo Challenge - Entries (Please Post them here)

The topic this month is: ... "Oil and Water"
Another Suzy special !

Now for the small print: ...
This thread is only for posting your entry, together with any comments/explanation/details you'd like to issue concerning your own photo.
But if you would like to comment on other people's entries, or have any "other" shots of your own you'd like to share, then please use the Comments and Rejects Thread -> HERE.

Remember the Rules:
* one entry (just one image) per person and
* the image must be your own work.
* all other normal forum rules, and image size limits, apply.

The image doesn't necessarily have to be taken this month, but in the spirit of the challenge, we do encourage it, so you get out and get into it and enjoy the challenge.
In this regard, YES, the image may be one that you have submitted to a previous photo challenge, unless of course it has already been voted a winner.

The winner of the public vote, which will be run at the end of the month, will get to choose next month's topic and have their photo added to our "Photo Challenge Hall of Fame" thread.

NB:
Just to let you know, in the next month I will be travelling in the outback, often with limited coverage. So bare with me and be patient if I am a bit late administering this challenge.

Good Luck!

Bimbermarala River

Very remote and peaceful area, and a nice place to wake up!

Taken with my Android Phone this morning.

I guess the humourous side, but it meets the brief PRECISELY

First Canberra frosts (WATER) of 2017 (yes, last year) right outside Costco service station (OIL) - someone forgot to turn off the irrigation/reticulation for the night it dropped to -5° There were icicles hanging off the trees too, but this captures the genre better

Taken with an iPhone, so not exactly photographic excellence

About as close as I can get is a pic I took one snowy winter, I was too lazy to empty the tray with the oil filter in it and this was the result next morning.

Olive Oil on Water

Last weekend I accidentally spilled olive oil into a pyrex baking tray full of water.
For some reason the tray was balanced on 4 upturned glasses with my Samsung tablet underneath. The tablet just so happened to be showing a colourful pattern at the time.
To further add to this unplanned situation, for some unknown reason my camera was on a tripod over the tray, and by sheer coincidental luck my macro lens was attached.
Totally mystified and in a dazed state I must have accidentally pressed the shutter release.

My Lava Lamp

Hi all,
Just thought I'd take a shot of one of my lava lamps.
Yes technically they are oil and water.
But after reviving quite a few over the years they are not just oil and water but water, oil, paraffin, sodium laureth sulphate, propylene glycol , carbon tetrchloride, and sometimes a few droos of perc and even kero to make it stretch a bit.
Its a bit if a balancing act to get oil to sink in water and heat it without changing the specific gravity and surface tension.
Took me many hours of playing with poisonous chemicals to get it right
Been so cloudy outside lately ive been making a new one from an old bottle.
At the moment its purple and clear but im going green i think.
Cheers
Andy

Olive oil and water with blue and rose pink food colouring wedged between to sheets of perspex.
Wow, I was so amazed at all the colours that came out of it.
It was fascinating watching the interaction with the oil. This was the most fun photo challenge I've done so far- both art and science together .
Taken last night, I had to wait nearly the whole month until hubby got back to cut up the perspex for me.
