Heart Attack Sale

The title says it all. I need to get rid of most of my heavier astro gear over the next month or so. The list includes:

A Celestron Edge HD8 and accessories, age about three years.

My much loved Skywatcher MN190, with the original small secondary (52mm), and a Moonlight focuser with MN190 special adaptor. A rare example. It is just to heavy for me now.

My 10" f5 imaging Newt, hand built using carbon strut, open tube, with a lycra shroud. Has GSO mirrors.

I may also sell my iStar 127mm R30 f12 open carbon strut refractor.

Likewise, my TS115 Triplet APO, f7.

I also have a Skywatcher AZGTI WiFi mount, with EQ software upgrade, and Latitude wedge and counterweight shaft and weight.

The small scopes, 80mm and below, I will be keeping for now.

I will get some photos up in a week or so when I return home from my recovery location.

Your free to make offers. It will be pickup at Lake Macquarie, as I am in no shape to be wrestling with trying to ship these items.

Glen, sorry to hear. After a severe BP episode last week, I fully empathise.

If you happen to have an HEQ5, let me know please.

Heart Attack

Glen,
I don’t know you but I know that you will be feeling pretty low at the moment. Last year it was revealed that I had suffered three attacks in the previous two years, all three unknown to me, definitely the best type to have. It was the triple bypass that caused me to rethink things and I spent many happy hours in the recovery unit planning the sale of my stuff.
In the event I only got rid of the largest most awkward piece to Colin of this forum but have clung on to a 120mm refractor plus smaller stuff. The 120 will go within the next year due to age (mine you fool not the scope) and then I will be down to a 100mm refractor but a certain Japanese company make a very lightweight instrument of this size.
Can I suggest that you postpone any sale of anything for three months at least, one because your not in the best frame of mind to release stuff that obviously means a lot to you and secondly why have a fire sale when it’s not necessary.
The quality of your kit will ensure that the vultures will still be circling in three months time.
My very best wishes to you for the future.

+1 Glen
Unless you really need to free up funds urgently for medical expenses, what's the rush - why not hold off on parting with so many things that mean so much to you? It might take some months before you can lift heavy objects again, but have your doctors really said there will be a permanent limitation?

Hi Glen,

Hope all is well with yourself.

Do you have someone to help you out to make it easier?

Do you have stuff on wheels to make it easier for yourself.

Sad to see you let go of stuff for such a rewarding hobby

Hi Glen,
I wish you well on your recovery.
Mamaba is correct, don't start selling your stuff yet, at our age Astronomy is one of the last things we have left to keep us going, it is a passion, it makes life worth while.
There are more ways than one to skin a cat, the challenge is to find ways to lift those telescopes that require you to do less work, even if it means getting someone to help you to do it.
As someone mentioned in the reply's, wait till you have fully recovered before you part with those telescopes, which have taken you a lifetime to acquire, and you love dearly.

Cheers
Peter

Hi Glen,

I had a heart attack about 10 years ago and a triple bypass. These days I am needing a new valve. However I never sold my Gear. I stopped using it for a few years but slowly got back into it.

It's hard for me to use it, arthritis from a motorbike accident, but I am happy I still have it; and enjoy my time outside with it.

Scopes keep very well, maybe get rid of some electronic stuff which does age and then get some more when you feel like using it again.

Anyway, hope your recovery goes well.

Cheers
Paul

Never good to hear.
Hope you get well soon.
I agree with the throng, keep your gear at least in the short term -What else you gonna do when your health returns?

Thanks everyone for your advice and good wishes. I will reply to all the PMs, and those that expressed an interest in the scopes will get first crack. As suggested, I will pull the sale back, at least till I have completed Rehab, and worked out what my new living arrangements may be.

I will leave it up for today so folks can see this post, then withdraw it - for now.

Sorry to hear about your health issues Glen.

I would suggest selling the MN190 and 10” as both were on the heavier side before the heart attack and you’ll still have an 8” Edge as they’re fairly light for their aperture.
As for everything else, wait and see what you can handle when you get some of your strength back.

Good move Glen, yes it's a shock but best to see how your recovery goes. Good luck mate, and don't give the nurses too much trouble!
