Just my two cents worth again,

I'd prefer to divorce the conference from a star party as to have the chance of getting away for two astronomy related events in quick succession and having fine weather is just relying on too many holes in the Swiss Cheese to line up!

Also, if you can avoid school holidays on the Gold Coast, I'm sure it would make costs a bit more affordable for both accommodation and conference venues. Might need a straw poll of who would want to go and whether they have young families who might like to combine this with a family holiday over the school holidays??

I would be another one interested in the conference. The gold coast would be a handy venue for me and what David above mentions a time between school holidays or the off season would make accommodation easier and more affordable.
I need more lessons in PS.
cheers Gary

Difficult to beat AIC. Anyone serious about imaging should make the effort to trek to the US at least once. That said, I support a local event. I'm happy to be a spectator, presenter or both assuming I'm in Oz at the time.

Count me in..
I will be keen to go.
To have a conference here locally somewhere is great.
We can all learn something new.

Jase - The intention would not be to beat AIC, just to have something more affordable for the aussie community to attend... I will definitely get out to AIC either next year or 2011... Mark will be in contact, I think it would definitely be worth while getting you to run through some processing tips and techniques... You are after all the human pixel inspector!
