NGC300 with Ha added.

First attempt at this and my Ha has come out like little blobs.

I layered Ha over a RGB image (taken with an OSC).

I am not at all sure if Ha is supposed to look like this.

Tips most welcome.

I wish I could help, but those red dots are beyond me. Maybe try stacking just the Ha by itself and process it to see if the glare is associated with the Ha only. Then maybe it is the way you are mixing it in?

In galaxies the Ha normally looks like that, the blobs are of course huge in
area. In close up shots of nebulae that have a fair amount of Ha, the Ha will appear as large areas of red, as in this M20.
