First go of Orion

First go at this nebula, second target I've ever shot. Gave it a whirl anyway, lots to learn.

5D IV, EQ6R, Evostar 80ED 140 lights + 30 additional for the core, blended in Photoshop. The camera shifted inbetween these two exposures, so I had to manually line up the layers.

Left side is smudged a bit as it's the left of a scope with no flattener. Trailing also occurred on the longer subs so I'll have to work on fixing that.

That is a fine first attempt, exposures look to have controlled the blow out of the core nicely, well composed, processing and colours look good. Were you actively guiding with PHD or similar. The ED80 will give you oval stars at the edges of the field if you aren't using a field flattener, not much you can do about it until you do get a field flattener. Doesn't detract from the image unless your a purist wanting everything perfect from the beginning.
Carry on, you're doing fine so far.

A remarkedly good image Adam.

If this is your first attempt, can't wait for the second!

Thank you, Jeff! No guiding, I don't have a guide scope, so this is just the ED80 on it's own.

Thank you Peter Half the battle for me is editing, so I'm pleased this one turned out okay. Helps to shoot at a dark site!

Thanks Wilco. ISO was 1600... main exposure sequence at 60 seconds, and 30 second exposures for the core. I could probably have dropped the core stack to about 15 seconds. Lesson learned
