Moon - 2010-03-23

Which one is best? 0.0005, 0.001, 0.005 or 0.01 sec.

All are 20 frames on a C8+QHY8 processed in Nebulosity.

The longer exposures seem to give better detail at the terminator but the rest is a bit washed out.

Also I notice that when debayered the blue intensity is about half the red/green. I had to boost blue about 50% to get these and they still are rather yellow. Is this to be expected? Is the QHY8 that much less blue sensitive?

Andrew how do you find Nebulosity? Thinking about outlaying some cash on software for processing.

I like the last one best but I could hardly tell the difference between them.

They're all great.

You won't find anything as good as Neb for the money. I find it simple to capture with but you have to make sure you do the post processing steps in the right order. I suppose that is true of any OSC.

I'm still getting the hang of shooting with the QHY8. I've almost reached the point a few times of giving up and selling it and getting another Atik - maybe the new 383L+ and the 9 filter motorised wheel.

Andrew
Downloaded it yesterday (Neb) looks good. Reference the QHY8 you see a lot of threads on here with people having dificulties, I know nil on them. $2799.00 + free post from Sydney dudes sounds good do you know what software is packaged with them?

Thanks Mike. It's more noticeable on the full size images. The best result would probably be obtained from blending the 0.01 over the 0.0005 to get the better terminator definition.

All the Atik cameras come with Atik's own image processing software and plugins for AstroArt and MaximDL. As long as you use recent versions of PHD and Neb, "they just work". One of my friends uses a 314E with Maxim.

I've used my 16-ic a few times for imaging with Atik's software. It took about 150 frames with 30% overlap to build a full moon mosaic on my C8. These days it spends 100% of its time on the guide scope with PHD.
