LP much? NAH!

Nope, I don't suffer much LP here at all...

Below is an unprocessed 1 hr total stack of FITS on CG-12 - PRIOR to LP removal, background neutralisation etc etc. Here is the 1hr AFTER PI cleanup: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...89#post1376089

Loverly isn't it...living right next to an airport sure has it's side effects LOL (a 5sec night shot with a DSLR shows the entire surrounds as bright pink-orange)...

So, if you tell me you CAN'T image from LP Hell, I'll scoff at you, because you CAN! May not be ideal - and without PixInsight I'd be up sheetcreek without a paddle...but as Nike says - JUST DO IT!

Thanks Lewis,

This gives us all hope including myself!!

I'm living next to a roundabout with 4x big Orange lights pointing down and a pathway light near my fence!

That's not LP. You just need to get rid of that PixInsight mask or invert it.

Joy of joys...Bunnings opened yesterday a mere 1km as the crow flies.

I think my LP gradients will turn purple

Lewis try a long dew tube..you have heard me rant about using a baffled dew tube but I swear it helps...just some black cardboard rolled up could help...you certainly wont stop all of it but every little bit of stray light you can eliminate must help.

Alex, I've been using my own extensions made from black felt stiffened with model aeroplane dope for YEARS, but I find it doesn't help at all here (It did where we lived previously). Of course, an extension won't help with sky glow, only what is around you, and Taks do a darned fine job at that. I have often looked DOWN the dewshield to see if there was ANY illumination, and there is none visible.

As I said, with Pixinsight processing, I don't really worry about LP as it is removed almost perfectly. Hence why I do not even use LP filters of any kind any more. The only filter I use is a UV/IR.

Nice results in spite of strong light pollution Lewis

Just to clarify, PI is very capable of removing gradients etc, but unfortunately noise introduced by light pollution stays in the data and it lowers the SNR. That's why some choose to walk the narrow and steep path of narrowband imaging

Indeed Suavi - it's really a lot forward, a little bit back every time I image. In the end, after LOTS of exposure time, it sorts itself out. Taken 8hrs so far to even slightly reduce noise and bring out good colour in Corona Australis from here, whereas from my dark site it'd be likely OK at 4 hrs.
