Sagittarius Gems (IC 1284, NGC 6589, NGC 6590)

Inspired by Andy's wider field shot of this region recently, I took a closer look at IC 1284 (red/pink emission), NGCs 6589 & 6590 (both blue reflection).

This is a 13.5 hour LHaRGB image.

Taken over 4 nights of good to average seeing for Lum & Ha and fair to poor for RGB, I managed to make a decent show of illustrating the subtle detail and colour interplay present in this dusty region of Sagittarius. I think it's very pretty, even if I do say so myself!

These nebulae lie about 5900 light years away. Note that there's barely any background sky visible behind the dust & gas in this image.

Very nice Marcus. I imaged this myself at a similar focal length last weekend but haven't processed it yet.

A very colourful region. Nicely done.

Greg.

Super good Marcus! Incredible details, colours and image scale. Best close up of it I've seen to date.

Stunning Marcus - the close up detail is amazing.
What did you shoot that with, must be some serious kit!

Now you only need to do about 20 more panels to mosaic the entire area

Thanks very much Marc! I worked hard on this one and was very pleased with the detail I got. The only other reasonable close up I've seen is by Wolfgang Pomper.

Thankyou Andy - you're too kind! Glad it's an eye popper!! See my signature below and links therein for my equipment.

Ah, Sensei Marcus.

You reveal much about the secrets of the Universe with this one.

Most excellent.

This is a stunning image Marcus!
I've never seen that level of detail in this object before.

This is one of those nebulae I have always thought largely rather boring, so I have never felt the urge to hit it ...but as is usual when one thinks such things, if you actually give it a shot, with some good kit and have a bit of skill...it can turn out pretty damn good...like here and not boring at all, nice work, as you say, rather pretty

Thanks very much Alluna-san! But I'm certainly no teacher!

Thanks Mike. I'm always on the lookout for new targets, as opposed to doing the same ones over and over - I find THAT boring unless they add some new detail or perspective. That's the nice thing about narrow field work - it allows new perspectives on old favorites.

The pareidoliac's snail nebula

That's funny. I'm not a pareidoliac like M&T so I didn't see any recognisable shapes in this image . So when my wife asked me what I was going to call the image I drew a blank. Then a moment later she says it looks like a snail moving away. So it's official, this is now THE Snail Nebula!
