black halos

Hi all
I am getting black rings around stars with my new Canon 6D which I have bolted onto a Hyperstar 14" Celestron HD.

The pic attached shows the extent of the problem. The Nikon I have previously used does not show this artefact at all so I am assuming it is due to the new camera all other things being equal.

The exposure is Cent A and stars are a bit long as it's not guided.

Any help would be welcomed.

Thanks
Richard

Hi R,

Were you shooting in RAW mode or JPEG? There could be some in-camera sharpening going on if in JPEG mode. To help diagnose I would shoot an image with RAW+JPEG engaged and compare. You could RESET the camera to its default settings and try again. The only problem is waiting until night and good weather for stars. Perhaps as a test you could try a high contrast day scene with sharp white and bright edges and then zoom in to the max to look for any such aberrations.

Happy hunting.

Best
JA

Is this RAW or JPEG? It’s what you’d expect to see from in-camera sharpening.
