Is private messaging broken?

As per the title, I think the PM system is borked.

Perhaps there's something in the user profile/preferences that controls messaging retention or ...?

I can't see any such settings within the User CP, never known vBulletin to have such controls.

User CP - Edit Options - Messaging & Notifications -

"When sending private messages the forum can make a copy of the message in your Sent Items folder.
[tick!!] Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default"

Apologies for the thread necro, it took a recent fresh round of private messaging to enable the save to sent items option!!!
