Next time I get the scope out I will download the maximDL trial.

I am really confident that this is a software issue as the hardware has not changed and has only just started having this problem.

I agree that it is a software issue.
Try a different usb port that isn't used with a hub so the camera has its own port.
Turn off any other software running. I find that sometimes my guiding will go way off if I do something processor hungry whilst guiding. Some static sometimes appears on the guiding window and the guider will chase the static rather than the star.
I use a win7 low spec lappy as my capture computer with CCDSoft5.00.216 for my spectrograph.
The other thing to try is click the High priority downloads button and see if this makes any difference. I do not have it clicked normally.
