How can I find the name of this Nebula?.

Ive just started imaging this nebula, but I cant find its NGC number or any other reference. The attatched pic is from an Astrometry.net plate solve, no number. Its near NGC1955.

Someone may recognise it if Im lucky, but id be interested in how else I can search for what it is.

I'd use Aladin, Fred: http://aladin.u-strasbg.fr/

If I get a chance later tonight I'll try it with your image.

Cheers,
Rick.

Isn't that part of NGC 1968, aka the "Super Bubble Nebula" in the LMC?

Better yet, isn't it NGC 1977?

Derrrr.....I meant NGC 1974

No, its certainly not the NGC1977 "running man" neb and perhaps part of NGC1968, but it still doesnt get close to it.

It's not in the NGC catalogue but it's in the Henize Catalogue of LMC Emission Nebulae as N 50.
http://www.asnsw.com/sites/default/f...mc-henize.html

It includes open cluster KMHK 884.

It's not that huge (catalogs are downloaded as needed) and definitely worth a download even if you don't need it this time. I find it very useful for finding small and strange objects in my images - Herbig Haro objects, small galaxies, planetaries, etc.

Cheers,
Rick.
