Big Fence

Since they started building this ' Big Fence ' around Parliament House ...I've wondered why ....

What are they afraid of ...??

Are they expecting an ' uprising ' somewhere in the future...

Politicians don't ' feel ' safe as things are ... why the Fence .... ??

Definition of a ' fence '

' a barrier, railing, or other upright structure, typically of wood or wire, enclosing an area of ground to prevent or control access or escape. '

....keep us out .... keep them protected..

Suspicious Col....

Putting it up will save money.
Firstly insurance premiums will be lower but now they can run some cattle to keep the grass down and fire the lawn mower guy.
And really putting up big fences is very "in" at the moment☺

Not sure, but it might be the start of a big wall. Maybe they want to keep southerners out (or northerners).

Equally suspicious Darrell

They certainly want to ' keep someone out ' with such a high fence.

Not surprised, the nazi concrete bunker mentality took hold in Canberra in a bad way in the 70s.

Burying Parliament House was a good idea, just a pity it was only half done. Shutting out the world with a fence is just an attempt to finish what should have been done but wasn’t.

Thankfully relatively few of these monstrosities were inflicted on Sydney or Melbourne; the worst being the Masonic centre in Goulburn st.

May be the fence is to keep the pollies in one place and save us money on their travel rorts.
Seriously, will the fence make them safer when anyone with bad intentions could throw or shoot over or through the fence or even fire a rocket from a hilltop a few kilometres away. Not that I would like to see such things occur by the way.

It certainly seems like it has security concern behind it...I would have gone for five strand barbed wire thats enough to keep cows in.

My Uncle used to work security at Parliament house in the 90's. We had a little tour into the bowels of the joint, only to stop at the nuke shelter at the bottom. I've never seen a door so thick in my life...

As for the fence, it's possibly more of the "us and them" differences being reinforced. The citizenry can't defend themselves with anything more pointy than a pool noodle. God forbid if you actually wanted to stop a stranger joining you (or your kids) at 3am. The Pollies are special however. Unlike us, they matter.
(Google "Townsville crime wave", if you're curious why I take issue to the above).

They're trying to stop dual citizenship MPs from entering the country illegally.
