nothing in "sent items"

Emails I send do not show up in sent items. I can't find anything in
settings that will allow me to enable this feature. Is there a way, or is
just another in the long list of W10 problems I have?

Which program and email service?

Gmail, for example, once made the rather confusing move of having both a "Sent Mail" and "Sent Messages" folder.

If using Outlook check that you don't have any rules that automatically deletes/moves/archives things. Be careful of adding such rules, you can accidentally and unintendedly filter/move/delete a lot more emails than intended.

I am with Westnet which is now part of iinet, and I use their email programme. Not only do my sent emails not show up in "sent messages", but I also have a folder called "sent", and two separate "inboxes". Also my inbox
randomly empties itself, and the missing emails are not in any of the folders.
It drives me insane.

So I tend to the paranoid when email goes mysteriously awry (I have had an account hacked and separately had a $2000 credit card charge made to my card with China Southern Airlines, from South America) and would suggest you change your password, plus the passwords of other accounts which you use this email address to register with... Just in case. I wouldn't put it past some auto-emailing hacker/spammer software to hide its tracks by deleting all mail.

Aside from that I'm afraid I can't be of much help as I haven't been on Westnet for more than 15 years... try their tech support. They used to be half decent, maybe not as much now they're owned by TPG but you never know. Maybe the good staff haven't all quit yet!

This has been happening for a long time with no other apparent
consequences. Westnet are not quite as good as they were when independent,
but at least their wait times on the phone are pretty good, and I get to speak to someone who doesn't have a thick Asian accent. They have no idea what causes my problems, reckoning that everything they can test comes up o.k.

I’m assuming you are using their webmail over the web.

I would download Mozilla Thunderbird for free and configure that to your isp email server. That way you will have a different email client to test.

If you get the same results, then call them back as you will have more for them to check. You can still use your webmail. If you use imap for emai, all your emails will be stored on their server until you copy them to any new folders within thunderbird. If you don’t understand some of the tech I’ve explained, just explain it to their tech support as they should know.

Cheers,
Damien

Outlook Express comes free with Windows, I use it and have never had any mail issues, and I use Westnet as my ISP.

Its easy to set up, just go into the tools menu, click accounts and set westnet.com.au as your mail server, type your email address in the properties button and your good to go.

Cheers

I don’t think Outlook Express is part of Win 10.

Also both incoming and outgoing addresses are : mail.westnet.com.au

Cheers,
Damien

Having moved around various countries and having many internet providers with their own email service, I've found Googlemail to be the best for me.
Instead of loosing access to all your email history when you move Gmail allows me continual access where ever I am (other than China)
