Astrofest Shots in Infrared (continued)

I've run out of room on the other thread, blame astrofest pristine clear skies for it, so I'm adding to the image collections here. Also found some old LUMs in raw so reprocessed some of the blends. The color balance is better and I could up the res significantly as a result. Check the big ones if you have the bandwidth, there's heaps of details.

Bit short of a mosaic on this one. Missed it by thaaaat much.

M16 - The Eagle Nebula

M17 - The Swan Nebula

Corona Australis

Inverted palette on this one. Cool blue, hot yellow. Bit of moire right center field due to LUM subs from the SPSP 2016 not being dithered. Back then I wasn't dithering much.

M8 - The Lagoon Nebula

... and of course it is unaustralian to pass on without imaging M8.

Unconventional blend IR IR/Sii Sii. Don't have a LUM for it but I had some decent Sii so I used it as a base for the color blend. Works well. Until I get some LUM. Might start shooting more Sii on other targets now. Looks cool against the milkyway backdrop as Sii is sparse. Almost like a thin translucent blue veil.

M42 - The Orion Nebula

QHY9/FSQ106N on G11/Lodestar OAG and Astronomik 742nm IR filter - 8x300s.

Here's the standard blend IR IR/LUM LUM. Small integration time on this one. Very cold mornings and not much time between clearing the tree line and sunrise. Also a lot of satellite trails. 6 out of 8 subs. Can't catch a break

Thanks Kevin. I think IR/Sii has potential because there isn't much Sii and it seems a cool way to highlight it in color. I like the iridescent blue and gold palette. Reminds me of the morpho butterly.

Great work Marc. Some look better than others. I particularly like Corona Australis, Lagoon and M42.

I like the way the IR brings out the background stars more and makes them more golden.

What wavelength IR filter are you using; 720nm?

Thanks Greg. Yes a lot of stars and different nebulosity. Anything over 742nm. In the pics descriptions. Blended with existing luminances 50/50.

Agree. I had no LUM to blend on this one and tried some limited Sii. It was an accident and a bit of a surprise. My favourite and iPAD desktop background now. Going to shoot a lot more Sii on various targets including Eta Carina see what comes up. When Orion is up and provided this summer nights are not too hot I'm hoping to do monoceros area as well. The Rosette could be very cool in Sii/IR.

Thanks Pete. For Corona Australia I inverted the blend and put the IR in the blue channel instead of the LUM. The Standard IR LIR L blend looks almost exactly like a LRGB shot.

You mean the 5 subs butchered by satellite trails out of 8? Too kind mate. This one is actually my least favourite, too blue I reckon and I suspect it might look a lot different when I collect more IR on it.

Unique views of perennial targets Marc. I really like all of them. The colour versions are quite interesting to look at but the IR images really show a view of these objects one does not normally see; so many stars.
