New Lens

I have been given permission to purchase a new camera lens for my 7D. I will probably go full frame in the future so I want to future proof my lenses. Choices are:

24-105 F4 L

70 -200mm F4L

It will be used with Polarie and also as a general purpose lens. I am leaning toward the 24-105 as I have an 11-16mm and a 50mm Prime for imaging. On a crop sensor this will give me 35-160mm.
Any thoughts on these Canon glasses?

If you want it as a general purpose lens then 70mm is too long a focal length to start at for general purpose. There's really no debate to be had, it's that clear cut I think. The 24-105 F4 L is a brilliant lens, I find it ideal as an all-rounder, for an F/4 lens.

I've used both for years, and currently have the 24-105 (I upgraded the 70-200). I find the 24-105 to be a really useful lens (and if I need to pack light, this is the one I carry). However, on a crop sensor, I think you may find 24 mm to be a little long (38 mm FF equivalent) for a general purpose lens.

Have you looked at the 17-55 f/2.8 IS? It's a really excellent lens, even if it doesn't have the "L" designation.

The 24-105 is a great all-purpose lens.

Don't forget your 11-16 won't work on the FF.

Thanks everyone!
I picked up the 24-105 from Georges Cameras today. Its a great little lens.
I have seen the 11-16mm used on a full frame camera but it only works from about 14mm upwards. I bought this some time ago for my 450D purely for astro work. Should be easy enough to sell in the future
It will be another two years before I go full frame (wife will kill me if I ask for another camera 10 months after buying the last one). A happy wife is a happy life
