Gum 12, Southern Cross, LMC Widefield

Hi guys, long time no post. Plenty of lurking though.

Just finished my first edit of this wide-field.
If you guys want to poke something with a stick in your self isolated boredom, feel free to criticise this as much as you want.

I did over saturate a little, could have framed it a bit better (and moved the shot a little up and left), but I wanted to really accentuate star colours as well as the different shades of red of the Gum nebula compared to the rest of the Milky Way, and the dark patch in the lower right was kinda interesting.

About 26 exposures of various shutter times, although most are around 4mins.

Integration time about 84mins
Canon 16-35mm F4L @ 24mm F/4
ISO 1600
No flats, darks from a different night.

Lovely wide field, I like the LMC sitting off to the side, you've gone very deep on this one. Nice work!

There's a lot to like with this image, a smorgasbord of dsos' in the area. Capturing the Gum Neb is intriguing, where was the image taken from. If from light polluted Sydney skies and you've captured it , then it begs to be given some imaging time from some darker skies.
Thanks for a nice image and sowing the seeds for a future project, if we can get out again soon, but that doesn't look likely for a while unfortunately.

This was taken from Grenfell NSW. Not much Light Pollution but there is a bit of dust in the air since they've had stuff all rain.

I never thought i'd capture the gum nebula with a DSLR.
I wish i could have pushed exposure times a bit higher for a few shots, but I cant seem to polar align with the polar scope, (i usually use PHD2). Cant seem to work it out.

Good luck with the future project, the opportunity will present itself eventually. Until then lets hope for a blackout on a clear night

So , the image was taken from rural NSW, albeit dusty skies. thanks for the info. Just need to be allowed out of the flat to get to a dark sky site.
