Comet Lovejoy, Cleveland Pt, Brisbane

The sky was clear and I managed to photograph the comet out at Cleveland Point. Shot at focal lengths of 15mm, 30mm, and 85mm on a Canon EOS 600D and fixed tripod. The 30mm and 85mm were both stacked images.

Visible to the naked eye as a faint searchlight pointing up into the sky.

Thanks for looking,

Tom

Some excellent shots there Tom – it looks like you managed to tame the horrid light pollution quite nicely.

Cheers

Thanks guys . Dennis I thought Cleveland point would lessen the Brisbane light pollution to the south east. I think that's the Gold Coast lighting up the horizon in #1 and 2.

As I was imaging a police car pulled up and an officer asked me (who was with binoculars around neck, standing motionless in front of a tripod in the shadows of a streetlight) what I was doing.

At that time the comet was not longer visible easily to the naked eye so I brought the camera over to them and showed them some pics - not spectacular - "Oh, that streak?" was the reply. I said it would have been much better a few days ago. Anyway, they drove on leaving me thinking how strange this hobbsession is sometimes

Hi Tom,

I was actually down at Cleveland Point on the morning of the 23rd and although there was a big break in the cloud in the direction of the comet I was too late . Anyway, well done regarding your beautiful photos especially since this place is so close to home!
