Shapley 1

Shapley 1 is a planetary nebula located in Norma. Its non bipolar, Torus shaped planetary. In other words it is face on towards us with a distinct ring of gas and dust. Also can be seen a bright halo which does extend out further than my meagre image of 16 hours. Mike Sidonio did a longer integration a few years back and it shows the halo better.

I am hoping to collect a bit more data yet in the OIII to see if I can get the outer reaches of the halo.

Nice image but image looks a bit over sharpened plus your stars need to ease off in sharpening that is my view

Nice one Paul. The blue ring (not the outer halo)looks almost octagonal in shape.

A most excellent image. It looks a remarkably close match to the ESO La Silla image of the same object. The processing is of course faultless.

Nice Paul. Are you sure that is not a "Worm Hole"?

Nice catch, Paul. Reminds me a little of IC5148.

It's a great looking ring PN this one, if you do go deeper and reveal that outer bow shock ring, I believe it will be only the third image that has recorded it

Thanks Martin, not sure why you think it is over sharpened but suffice to say I did not do any sharpening to the stars. I also isolate the stars in sharpening, so I am not sure why you might see that in my image.

Yeah it is a bit like that. The halo on 5148 is a lot bigger too and probably a lot bigger than most images have captured so far. Certainly bigger than mine.

Thanks Mike, Yeah I think I will persist onward with it. There are some outer parts of the halo I can see in your image that are not yet visible in mine and I note you went a lot deeper than I did with a more sensitive camera, so I might need to go a bit further on integration again to match your image.
