ASI094 First Light: Eta Carina

With a great weekend up in Coolah last new moon I decided it would be a good time to see the first light of the ASI094 I bought off a fellow IIS member late last year. Didn't use a UV/IR filter and was curious as to whether it would be noticeable. Let me tell you... It is! Star bloat is a real thing

With just shy of 4 hours of exposure under the pristinely dark skies of Coolah I don't think I'd need any more exposure to make any difference to SNR. The background is smooth without any noise reduction.

I do have some tilt towards the bottom right corner that I do plan on addressing with the tilt adapter on the ASI094 but I'm awaiting on some adapters from Joshua before I can do that.

HI Colin ,
Thx for the share man. I do recognise the FOV Nice color and the "Close up" FOV is reminiscent of my shot through "Zamar".

Big CMOS chip certainly helps

Zamar was a little more monochromatic

Nice colours, can't comment further though as the link to high res appears to be broken?

Great image, Colin. I can see the advantage of hours of exposure compared to my stacked 30-second images (on Nikon D850) of Eta Carinae. Well done.

Thanks Andy, link fixed! I must have accidentally put a “ in there for some reason.

That’s not to say that you can’t have a lot of fun with 30s shots of objects across the sky, you could knock off most of the Messier catalog in one evening that way

Thanks Peter, doesn’t quite have the depth of your AP305 but it is a straw with a OSC

It’s not a single 4 hour exposure 47x300s at 0 gain Could potentially get that much exposure with film and that could be an interesting experiment. The skies were pretty dark!
