Ngc6188 rgb = ohh

I really need to build a defect map for my camera; you can really see it in the OIII data, it's pretty bad. I also need to do much longer exposures for OIII as 20mins is landing me too close to the read noise.

Anyway, this is a quick hack at processing it. RGB = OIII, Ha, Ha. Total integration time of 5hrs, 40mins.

Astronomik 6nm OIII
Baader 7nm Ha

Great! I'm enjoying watching this project come along. I'm hoping to try and do some narrowband imaging one day, so interested in what sub-exposure times you are using.

Nice one Lee. IMHO the best palette to use in a bi-color with Ha and Oiii is the following blend:

Red: Ha
Green: Oiii or 50% Oiii with 50% Ha
Blue: Oiii

You'll get something similar to this or this.

Nice and sharp and I like the framing. But IMHO the blue is just a bit too strong.

yeah nice one Lee, sharp and smooth.

here is a result I got experimenting with a Ha Oiii bicolour.
R Ha, G OiiiHa, B Oiii and by using selective colour to diversify the colours.

your data is way better so I imagine you could pump out quite a few variations https://www.flickr.com/photos/803366...blic/lightbox/

cheers

Thanks Aaron :-)

All of the subs used in that were 20mins. I'm live in fairly dark skies, but the moon was fully up for I think all of the Ha and some of the OIII. My OIII subs were too short though, made it difficult to separate the signal from the noise when processing... I'll probably double that to 40mins and try and get some more tonight.

Thanks Marc! Pretty sure I tried a similar mix initially but didn't much like it as, if I remember correctly, it came out very yellow with this data. I'll keep playing with it though and give it another shot.

Cheers Robert! Yeah I was wondering whether I pushed the saturation a bit much. It was pretty subdued originally and I liked it, but I tend to understate colours too much so I made it more saturated than I initially thought looked right.

That's very nice
I'm always impressed with some of the looks one can get with Ha and OIII.

Thanks Hugh :-)

I got some more OIII last night which clean that up well. I still need to build a defect map, but I cleaned it up a little bit with auto detected cosmetic correction.

I've been unable to figure out how to get the colour diversity Russ got so mine are still looking very monochrome.

Here's another variation which I'm liking though... HOO instead of OHH.

Ok, found another tutorial which spelled it out for me in terms of PI. Finally got something with a bit of colour now: http://www.astrobin.com/192442/
