Thoughts on standard info to accompany image posts ?

I see a lot of amazing images posted here, but there seems to be a trend to just post the image and not much info about it, what equipment was used etc...

I find seeing an image is only part of it. A lot can be learned about the details used to capture and process the image.

I would like to propose that when at all possible our members include some basic information about their images:

eg

Location: Back yard from light polluted area or crystal clear mountain top
Telescope: eg RCOS 12.5 or WO110 or AP155 etc...
Focal Length: native 900m or 760 with 6.3 reducer etc..
Mount: Paramount ME or GPDX, etc...
Camera:
Canon 5D, STL, QHY10 etc....
Guiding: Orion Starshoot, PHD etc..., Unguided
Filters: eg IDAS LPS
Image Data: 10 x 4 min Lum, 10 x RGB Binned 2x2 etc....
Processing: Calibration and stacking using tools X, Final processing tool Y etc...

This info at a minimum allows us to learn what image scales, cameras and scopes make good combinations and takes no more than a few minutes to add to a posting.

Thoughts ?

Possibly being such a small gathering of people, we get to know what others have so maybee it gets missed at times, plus over-info can be tedious. Still a valid point for the basics for others to learn by.
Processing.... Can be a bit of an issue for some as we all have our little tricks we like, plus by the time an image is finished it might read like a book.

Yep that has been my experience too. I often get asked what gear I used to obtain the shot and yet if a person were to scroll down the information is there to read.

Not many people don't have information about there gear.

Maybe it was a sample of the ones I was looking at recently that had no info.

for example

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=79791
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=79782
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=79739
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=79117
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=78746

Anyway just a thought. for those that do provide info great. keep doing it

For those that dont. Think about doing it

Agreed. While this would be wonderful but usually not practical as each image would end up being a 5 page dissertation.

Any info though is better than none.

I really enjoy viewing the images posted here and elsewhere and I appreciate it when the technical details are posted - it's a great way for us to all learn.
If I see a nice image posted without technical details and it gets my curiosity I don't hesitate to ask for info.
The one thing I like to know is if any field flattener or coma corrector was used and if so which one. In fact I'll be adding this to the standard template I use on my website soon... It's in the mysql database, just not published on the webpage yet.
