Ngc 247

NGC 247 is a galaxy that I've avoided in the past because it has reputation of being a difficult low surface brightness object and I thought it would not fare well in my light polluted skies. I've just recently changed back to my STXL 6303 so I picked NGC 247 as a test object. Sky conditions were generally pretty good but I had other unexplained problems that I fortunately managed to work around.

Cheers

Steve

Looks good, Steve. Framing wasn't ideal

That's gorgeous, Steve. Deep, sharp, beautiful colour, excellent processing.

Nice one Steve. Perhaps needs a bit more field to get the whole galaxy in...perhaps a mosaic?

Thanks Peter. Didn't really plan this properly as it was initially just a test shot. Also lost a bit of real estate through the problems I was having. Perhaps I'll go back to it with a view to a mosaic.

Thanks Rick. It was initially just a test shot so I didn't worry too much about the framing.

Amazing that such a small galaxy is larger than the frame, you really were at long focal length there.

Greg.

A very nice image Steve! You don't need a larger FOV IMO but a better camera angle (so the galaxy was aligned closer to the diagonal) would have made a big difference (guide stars permitting).

Thanks Marcus. I'm probably not finished with this one yet.

Thanks Greg. It's actually quite large - almost the same size as NGC 253

That's a cool shot Steve. The lopsided galaxy full of hula hoop star systems.

Thanks Marc. It certainly turned out better than I expected it too.

Thanks Louie. I plan to get a bit more data for it and add some Ha if the weather clears up.
