Telescope mount repair

Hi all,

I have a Celestron CGEM mount. The last three times i have set up to use it i have noticed an issue with its movement. When slewing with the hand controller to fine tune the alignment it seems as if the gears within the mount are slipping. I can hear the gears moving but this does not translate to the mount. There is either no movement at all or reduced movement. I am not sure if it is worse in RA or DEC. Would anyone know of a fix or somewhere i can take the mount to get looked at.

Thanks
Jason

Hi Jason , is it only the RA or both. ?
First thing I would check is the little Allen head screws holding the gear,s or pullys if belt drivin that they are tight on the motor and gear box shafts , sounds like they might be loose and slipping.
Brian.

Hi Jason,

Sheldon and Hammond in Sydney are the Australian distributor for Celestron. Their service department does mount repairs for units both in and out of warranty. Hope this helps!

Have you tried to adjust the worm carrier screw?
Astrobaby website has complete strip down and rebuild instructions for sky watcher mounts but not sure if celestron mounts have similar builds.
I had to readjust my RA over Christmas as the gears were not meshing.
Good luck.
Bo
