"Uncle" Rod Mollise has written many articles comparing SCT.

Brian, try this site. Yes it is a bit out of date but there is a lot there.

Eyeroll Dan.

Jeremy's advice is exactly how I found the link above provided by Gary, but many years ago now, when I had the same question posted here. After all how did you find the link you posted above...did you search for it on the (gosh) internet. Or did someone just give it to you...

Sometimes it does pay to do some work before just asking for charity help. Just my not so lazy thoughts...

Also why eye-roll Jeremy because you didn't like his advice? He was after all trying to help. Sometimes we don't like the answers we get...that shouldnt mean we belittle those helping us. Again (now my ) four cents worth...

Have a lovely day Dan.

If it's specifically a SCT you want then really the only brands are Celestron and Meade. I don't think one is necessarily better than the other although the Meade models tend to be quite a bit heavier for some reason.

From reading Cloudy Nights it seems that many people think there has been some variability in optical quality over the years.

As to the weight of the Meades, I know the 12 inch models have a counter weight that sits inside the ota behind the main mirror. There's a couple of tutorials somewhere online explaining how to remove this weight. Not sure if it's the same for all sizes.

So you have been here for a long time eh? You just joined in February 2020? And you seem very adept at the forum?

You have a great day
