Star trails on battery

Anyone tested how many shots you can get, eg 8x5 min exp?
Or is if too risky o battery?

My 550D , on a fresh charged battery, in cool-mild weather, will capture for at least 5hrs doing 5min subs. When the batteries were new, I could capture for 8hrs.

the energy is primarily in keeping the sensor active, so not a huge difference in sub-length. if you were writing raw files to the card every five seconds it might start making a difference.

i get ~4 hours of continuous operation on my 5DMKII, similar for other current generation DSLRs. significantly less for older cameras.
