Close to you - Jupiter and Venus

Had a look at this close pairing tonight. Nice to see these two, much the same apparent size and in one field of view. Striking to the unaided eye as well.

Yes, they do look good in the eyepiece. Should be able to do 100x tonight and still see them both

Been asked by several people what those 2 "stars" were during unrelated conversations over the last couple of days. One thought it was the Southern Cross

Next time that happens, I'll say no, Eric can see it from the northern hemsiphere, so if anything it's the Northern Cross...

I was hoping to get the scope out tonight, but the weather is not looking at all promising, it would be great to see them both in one field of view.

They are at a good altitude too. Visable for quite a while after sunset.

Just had a look. Could get them both at 100x. Beautiful! Nice crescent and Jupiter and its satellites all in the same field, Seeing them together really brings home how high the surface brightness of Venus is compared to Jupiter.
