Jupiter and Saturn - 10th June

Hi All

I took some video back on the 10th, just from the backyard.

Results so far are attached.

Jupiter has Io and its shadow visible, on a dark near the top of the disk.

Stacked in Autostakkert, tried to improve result in Registax, but, so far, that hasn't helped. I used GIMP to convert the tif's to jpg's.

Video captured using a Skyris 618C, with IR filter, through an 8" LX90 telescope, I think I also used a 2x Barlow.

Good one Philip, planetary is always a challenge and with an eight inch scope you've done well. I think I've got as much as I can out of my 8 inch Newt on planetary with the gear I use. Atmospheric seeing is what determines the quality of my images now. What sort of camera is a Skyris 618c ?

Hi Michael

Thank you for the comment.

The Skyris 618C is a OSC planetary camera from Celestron, made by Imaging Source.

So far, I am very happy with it. Need much more practice, and darker, cloud free sky.

I was lucky and picked it up second hand from this forum.

Hi Philip,

Great pics ! I'm happy that I can get colour and hemisphere lines in my pics of Jupiter. I'd love to be able to achieve the detail you've got. Same goes with Saturn. Given you are using a dedicated planetary camera, do you know what the exposure setting are that it uses ?

Hi Alex and Ryan

Thank you for your comments, much appreciated.

Alex, I have liked your shots as well.

Ryan, I looked in the Sharpcap log file, the exposure was 0.0312499987519935sec. Just an approximation of course!
