Antares Occulation

Just looking through old pics and come across this from last year.
Antares and look harder there to see the limb of the moon.
I only had a breif period to grab a rush shot before visually observing and timing the grazing occulation.
So the camera was held to the eyepiece the old fashioned way.
All this was 8 degrees above the horizon.
I hope that if you look hard enough there that you will see the dark limb of the moon.

1st ever post in this section........Cheers Kev.

Hi Kev

I had to copy the image into my image processing application and then adjust the Levels to see the now unmistakable Moon! Must have been a spectacular event visually, where the eye can accommodate a wider range of brightness levels.

Cheers

Dennis

Yes it was spectacular. The observing site was about 130km north of Broken Hill, just south of Packsaddle. I can share my video of the event. Go here...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94Svkv8o74g

This was using my 8"LX90 that was left to run unattended while I observed the event visually, 200m to the south. The scope was defocused, a bit too much really, in an effort minimise the saturation of Antares A. Watch carefully and you'll see Antares B pop up above the limb just before the reappearances of Antares A.

I was not the only one to run unattended stations though. We had 8 observers and 13 stations.
