Ngc 6744

I'm both disappointed and happy with this one. It's quite a bit better than my first attempt at this galaxy, but as mentioned in the NGC 7090 thread I've been plagued by bad seeing and some equipment challenges lately, so I think this could have been a lot better if that were not the case.

I pushed this one pretty hard in terms of processing, maybe too hard?

Rick's one was a tough act to follow, hopefully you've all forgotten what his looked like by now

Your masterpiece. The colours are gorgeous. Lots of clean detail on a faint target.

Enjoyed looking at all three galaxy shots you put up today Lee, all are nice views. You have certainly mastered the art of getting colour in your images Hope you sort your technical issues asap, it's much more pleasant when things are just working, image acquisition stress sucks

Absolutely love the colours. You seem to have the art. Something I strive for.

Thanks! Even I thought I might have gone too far with the colour on this one!

Thanks Mike :-) To be fair, I'm sure the gear issues are at least half user error, but I've spent weeks trying to solve them and haven't been able to so it's been pretty frustrating regardless.

ha! Thanks Suavi, that's quite the compliment. I've always been very impressed with your nebulae, not sure I have it in me to process them as well as you do.

Thanks Kevin :-) I think I'm walking a fine line these days with colour, but I think historically I tend to be overly conservative in my processing so I'm trying to push it a bit harder these days... mistakes will be made!

Hi Lee,

NGC6744 is a difficult target and you've done a great job! As others mentioned, the colour is very tasty.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Rick :-) It was seeing your recent version that inspired me to have another crack at this one... I'd written it off for a number of reasons. Glad I had another shot, turned out better than I'd hoped.

Wow, Lee, that's a great 6744. The colour is fabulous and that sweeping spiral arm to the left is normally very faint and you have caught it nicely without having to stretch the hell out of it!

This combining lots of short exposures gig with low read noise cameras is producing some epic images.

Greg.
