M104 in Corvus

M104 taken from the backyard Friday night. Initially setup to try out my newly machined camera adaptor to see if my light path was travelling nice and square which I think has improved my stars as much as possible for a Newt.
Anyhow decided to snap the Sombrero on its way up over the 25 degrees of dusty low horizon atmosphere under the new moon. Coolish conditions after midnight assisted 43 one minute subs@ISO1000 using Baader UV/IR Cut Filter.
Happy with the result, Autumn on its way, bring on the crisp clear skies....

Fabulous result Anthony. You've managed to obtain some mottling in the central dark band as well. Despite all the evils working against you , Melbourne's LP, poor visibility from M104 being so low, this has come up really well. Nice star colours too.Great job!

Nice picture !

BTW it is not in Corvus, but in Richard Branson's constellation: Virgin, close to the Corvus border.

Good one Anth

You have brought out good colours.

Have a look at my attempt about 10 posts down.

Mine is totally devoid of colour however has more detail.

I suppose it's a trade off...

Cheers Mickoid,
Yes light pollution is only getting worse with the urban sprawl to the northern parts of metro melb. Trying to steer my heavy home made 10" is hit and miss most of the time but I make the most of it's light catching ability. It's long focal length means I can get in close but also makes it difficult to track consistently.
I'm happy enough with it and think may revisit this later in the season as it climbs higher in the sky.
Thanks
Anth
