Thanks guys,
I hope that will give others ideas for their own portable systems.

I might add red LED lighting to the ammeter otherwise it
can't be seen at night without a torch.

There are 2 batteries - each the same.
See the battery here:

The labels were done on a Zebra label maker
on a sort of a metallic type film.

Nicely constructed, Allan. The only thing I don't much care for is the cigarette lighter sockets. I'm using Anderson PowerPoles for all my 12V connections.

Cheers,
Rick.

Very neatly done. I was browsing your image gallery and noticed your QHY9 setup with the filter wheel and thin OAG/lodestar. Very interested in it. I've been struggling to use a similar setup but I can't seem to get the lodestar to focus and just realised I might have had the OAG too close to the camera face. Couple of questions.

1_ is it a coma corrector right after the thin OAG?
2_ What distance do you have from the AOG to the camera face?

Thanks for your help.

1) The Coma corrector is before the OAG.
2) as I said on my picture:

"That now allows me to adjust the
Baader RCC for the correct 91.5mm
distance from the camera sensor to knurled ring or to whatever works best."

You see - the Varilock adjustment sleeve allows me to adjust the distance.

I only made the box out of cheap wood as an experiment.
You are right in that if you bump the cigarette lighter
connectors they can disconnect.
I haven't had any trouble with that.

Excellent.
Reminds me of "The Hot Seat" I built a while back to take to star parties.

Very nice but it looks a bit big to lift.
I was after a smaller portable unit.
As it stands mine only works for 4 to 5 hours so
I would need to add a car battery on a cable for long nights.

True, it is big to lift but I can do it using one arm, usually just unloading it out the 4WD and into the tent etc.
Not suitable for everyone's needs but I designed it so I could take it with me to star parties or camping.
Works a treat out in the field although I don't use it at home obviously where I usually image from.
I've taken it to Lostock and SPSP many times and it lasts well.

Just realised you're using the RCC which allows a lot more back focus. I use the MPCC. Is that a 13mm spacer before your filter wheel? Just trying to work out how far the OAG/Lodestar is.

I couldn't tell you off hand what the precise measurements are -
I no longer have a vernier.

I went to the RCC because the MPCC didn't have enough back focus.
It is also a better 3 element design.
I would recommend the Varilock spacer which is adjustable.

On this pic you can see that a small amount of material has been removed from the plastic
filter wheel housing to connect it up the way I have it
with an OAG.
