Question on Canon 40D live view

HI, those with a 40D might be able to help me with this one.

Just wondering if you can display live view on an external monitor so you can focus in "real time"? Also is it possible to control the number of shots you take with a laptop?

I see that a 500D is now out so that might be a good option as well.

My 10D is getting a bit long in the tooth now and am thinking about upgrading.

Cheers
Mike

Live view you can see on your laptop with the canon program and it is also possible to control the number and lenght of exposures with the laptop.
This is all thru one usb cable.

I use Images Plus Camera Control with my 50D, its got a nice live view feature that displays the live view image on the laptop screen. Images Plus is also used to control the camera from the laptop for things like number of exposures, ISO settings, exposure duration, ect via a USB cable.

Wow certainly a quantum leap from what I have to go thru with my 10D, you guys are gonna make me spend some money.

is there a limit to how long the exposure time that can be set?

Also is the canon software mac compatible, I can put windows on a partition on my mac but want to keep all things windows off my machine if I can help it.

Thanks for the info.

Yes the Canon disk also has all the programs for the Maccus
I think you can go to 99 hours exposure.
