We continue our long journey on this project which started here in 2017 with a practice run on an SMC Mosaic. I now have the processing completed for 6 panels out of a proposed 12 for capturing all of the SMC.

For better viewing at high resolution, try this link to the post on my GigaPan site. It is best viewed on a large screen and use the GigaPan full screen mode. You can then zoom in and out with the mouse scroll wheel and click and drag across the image.
I have ten completed panels worth of data in the can thus far but due to bush fire smoke, dust storms, clouds and now rain - I have not been able to capture any data since October last year. It looks like it will be the end of the 2020 calendar year before this will be done and dusted
Excellent Rod, enjoyed panning around in that, you have done a great job with the processing . You can't not complete it now, surely t'will be epic While not providing the same level of resolution, your Herculean capture and processing efforts just to get this much so far, let alone what is still to come, do make me appreciate my lazy man FSQ-16803 combo ...I think I'll have to wait until I can afford a 37mm chip with 4 micron pixels, so I can do it in just two nights
Greg/MnT/Paul/Mike, thanks for your comments and feedback. We will definitely be continuing the journey and I have now started working on the next three panels.
I like your planning Mike for a very wide field set up with the FSQ106 with a 4 micron pixel camera. In fact, I did refer to your SMC image during the processing as it provides for an excellent reference for this project.

About two years ago I did a 21 hour 15 panel mosaic of the SMC but purely as RGB and yours really goes to show just how much of an improvement adding Ha brings to the overal pop of the image.
Colin/Lee/Tim, thanks for your replies and thanks Colin for the observation on the Ha. It does add a lot to the image having the Ha regions included so it is well worth spending the extra time on data acquisition.

Many thanks lads. Yes, it has been a lot of work and I’ve learnt a lot about building mosaics in the process. My personal view of the universe has taken me down many wormholes with this project

Hmmm, there was always going to be pressure to keep this going However, we must bring this to a close at some stage In fact, I'm starting to think that 9 panels might actually pull this up. I shall post results when I am done and let others be the judge. Thanks Russ, Rodney.
