I lucked a couple of snaps by accident with my dslr and 80 mm scope, you can see a visual in the beginers astro photo section.

Hi Ken,

Should the title of the post be "Nova Car" instead of Cen ?

The post by Ian Musgrave (bless his socks !) shows the nova in Carina.

I was able to attend Penrith Observatory this evening, and bagged an image of Nova Carinae 2018. LX90-10", f/5, Grasshopper Express 10 second image.

The nova appears a little less bright than HD92063 (the brightest star in the field) at mag 5.08, and brighter than TYC8613-02168-1 (just below the nova) at mag 9.39. Some coma is evident from the 0.5x focal reducer.

Also attached is the field from the Palomar Obs. Sky Survey (POSS). The nova's presumptive location is shown by the crosshairs.

Thanks to Ken Harrison (Merlin66) for the heads up on this lovely new star.

Regards,
Tony Barry

I saw nova Car at 1am AEST on 4/4/18 with a 6" reflector and an 11mm EP
It is about the same magnitude as HD 92399, mag 6.5.

Got the chance to observe Nova Car last night. Always interesting to view a "new" star not listed on maps and planetarium apps.

Right. The Youtube offering is a slo-mo video of a car on a beach exploding.

I am sure this all makes sense. It's humorous (and I'm not :-).

Oh well. Back to work.

Tony Barry
