Taking a sequence of long exposures in D600

Hi,

Is there any way to take a sequence of long exposures (> 30s) in Nikon D600 automatically?

It is easy to do in Nikon D300 and D200 using:
  1. Remote controller MC-36. Unfortunately some genius at Nikon decided to get rid of the 10-pin connector, so MC-36 is useless.
  2. Maxim DL and Shoestring DSUSB box. Well, this option still requires the 10-pin connector.
Thanks for any info in advance.

Regards,
Matt

The D600 simply has the same connector as all the new DX Nikon cameras. Nikon don't make an intervalometer for this camera, but the Chinese do. Basically a rip-off of the MC-36 with the connectors to suit the smaller Nikons.

Find them on ebay for <$20.

Thanks Chris,
I am going to order one. In fact, taking into account the price of MC-36 in Australia (lowest found at DDP - $208) I could order 10 of them

Matt

Yes you can. I just did multiple 60 minute exposures on my Nikon D800E.

You get a cheap Ebay intervalometer with the Nikon 10 pin connector.

You simply set the intervalometer for the delay, the exposure length, the number of exposures and the interval between exposures.

As mentioned they cost about $20 and make a beeping sound whilst the camera is exposing.

I taped mine to the neck strap of the camera so its easy to find. They also have a little lighted dial which whilst hard to read in the dark is something.

Greg.

Thanks for the reply, Greg,

I have bought on e-bay an intervalometer similar to the one suggested by Chris. I will have to wait for a couple of weeks but shipping is $0 (how do they do that?).

Regards,
Matt

Just when you're offering this advice in the future remember the D600 doesn't have the 10 pin connector. It's the only camera in the hundreds series which is omitting the connector. The D100, 200, 300, 700, and 800 all have them but the D600 uses the same interface as the thousands series.

Theres a built-in intervalometer on the D600.

EDIT: NVM forgot its limited to 30sec.

Those cheap ebay intervalometers and remote shutters are as good as the real thing.
