Another Crab - A Messier One

Forgive the pun in the title

Crab with about 7 hours of Ha, 3 of OIII and 1.5 of RGB. Needs a lot more RGB and OIII. And perhaps could try some sulphur?? But may not get more data this season as I'm a bit tired of imaging it!

Seeing was poor - probably of course mainly due to the altitude. It only just cleared my trees and streetlights - the latter rendering any luminance I took unusable. But I'd imagine the smoke from Kangaroo Island didn't help!

The processing is a messy combination of a pure HOO version merged with an HOO-enhanced RGB version. Pure Frankenstein! I need to understand how to use H and O with RGB better

Astrobin version here.

Comments and advice welcome as always.

Paul

Very cool image and considering it only reaches 30deg max elevation from Adelaide that's a fine job Paul Plenty of structure and colour visible.

I recall I imaged this baby once through my old 12" Meade SCT way back in 2003 with my first little CCD camera - a simple mono stack but that's it...and even though it was crappy, I was thrilled with the result, such a cool object

It’s coming up really nice Paul! It’s difficult doing some of these Messier objects as they don’t get overly high. That’ll definitely put a limit on the detail you can get.

Very nice Paul despite smoke and low elevation

Somehow missed this little gem of both astro-photographic beauty and punditry. Very fine!

Wow - that's really nice Paul.
An object we don't see targeted very often by Southern Hemisphere photographers.

Nice crab Paul. Something I have never been able to do with my trees at the front of the block which prevent me imaging it from Clayton. When I move out to Swan Reach that will change though.

The detail is excellent giving the imaging conditions here of late. A pleasing result overall for sure.

Nice job, Mr Duck! Glad you got some sky time! I've always wanted to do this but I lack the aperture and focal length.
