Question Machine shop equipment question

I would like to mount a smaller keyless chuck (it came from hand drill) on my larger stand drill (accepts MT2 arbor).
I tried ebay, but couldn't find MT2-> thread adapter.

On similar issue, is there a lathe self-centering lathe chuck (~60-70mm dia) that can be mounted on drill shaft with B16 end? Or some kind of adapter for mounting plate?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Bojan,

Try to search "Morse Taper Adapter" - I found some MT2 to B12 & B16 draw bar adapters on this search....

https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_...apter&_sacat=0

Alternatively try ebay US

Best

Thank you.. I found something that looks OK (apart from thread size, it looks too big). But postage is too high... as anything else from US.
MT2-B16 adapters are quite common, I already ordered one from HK for $10.

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the link.
Yes, it does, but only half - I already have a chuck (different model) so, I need only shaft (arbor).
If I don't find something suitable, I will go for the linked one, the chuck on it is "high end" model.

Gday Bojan
Not a B16 fit, but if you have a MT2 drive then the following may work
https://www.ebay.com/p/Superior-Elec...d=371255906503
also more expensive but looks better quality

Thank you for links, Andrew..
Actually, what I am trying to do is a bit odd - I am trying to convert my old press drill (Ryobi, ~$100 from Bunnings... recently I acquired larger stand press drill so I don't need the smaller one any more) into a lathe, something like shown on the attached image (the image is from google search on the subject.... there are myriads of projects there).
Intention is to use it for plastic and maybe aluminium.

Drill chuck has B16 receptacle...
I already bought Sieg C0 tool holder with lead screw from ebay (~$47), the problem now is to find suitable lathe chuck (preferably with B16 receptacle, or suitable adapter for M12 thread which appears to be a common interface).

I will post some images when I have something sort-of working...

Not sure for the B16 to lathe chuck, ( i have only ever seen B16 with the std drill chucks ) but for many lathe chucks, you can get them with a blank adapter plate.
You first fit the adapter plate to the lathe spindle you are going to use then machine it down flat and square, then bolt on the chuck????
Just for info, does your drill press have a morse taper spindle ????
Many use a small morse to BT16 spindle adapter but the MT is bolted into the head.
Open the top of the press and if you see a bolt/nut on the top of the spindle, you may be able to release it and push out the existing adapter and hence be able to use std fittings.

I was thinking maybe there is a morse taper there, but was not sure, and it did not appear to be the case - I remember the chuck (with B16 mounting hole) was packed separately, and it was easy to remove it from spindle after couple of years use.
I will try again and have a better look...
If so, this would make my life much easier...

Hmmm.. it seems some models have MT2 taper after all.

Yep. My old drill press has a MT2 spindle, then MT2 to B16 adapter, but on checking, the MT is a blind push fit, ( no drawbar locking it in ).
ie when you fully wind the spindle down, there is a slot in the side of the spindle and this allows you to use a std tapered drift to remove it.
My mill also uses a morse taper spindle, but it is held in place using a drawbar.
One thing to consider re trying to use B16 the way you want
It looks like this is a "quick fit" type connector designed for "drills"
ie where the load is always pushing the chuck onto the spindle and is central to the axle.
Not sure if B16 would be safe for a true lathe chuck that can be loaded in a series of directions
Ever seen a chuck/faceplate spinning across a floor :-)

Yes, I was thinking about those safety issues.. I think (if I find a chuck with B16 receptacle) I will add a leftsided tap and screw (like on hand drills).
Unfortunately, my drill has B16 taper on the shaft itself, so no adapter.
