How to remove silicon goo from plastic enclosures..

I am assuming many of you guys know about that ugly, yucky stuff... what's left after silicone rubber decomposes after couple of years...
In the past I tried everything, without success.. almost gave up thinking the stuff is destructible.. until I tried ordinary petrol (unleaded, 95 octane).
It worked!
I also tried to remove goo created by old sticky tape and insulation tape.. and it worked like a dream.
I hope this will be useful for some of you
