Lightbulb thinking of a digital SLR

hmmm, not sure if i should buy one or just stick to my normal digital camer. it takes ok photos.
I want to have realy long exposures to get the rotation of the stars and other things.
I also want to take some (mostly) aerial photography and landscape stuff along with that.
oh and... realy hight mega pixels, atleast 10mp, whats the average?
any tips on types of camera, price, where eto buy etc.
