Nikon N50 (AF) and t-adapter gives ERROR CPU

Hey all

I've decided to use my old Nikon N50 AF film camera for some prime focus moon photography.

I went down to Bintel this morning and bought myself a Nikon T-ring and t-adapter. I went home and connected this to the camera and it immediately came up with "ERR - CPU" in the display. This seems to indicate that the camera won't work AT ALL without a CPU (i.e. electronically-controlled a/focus) lens attached to it. I tried turning on the camera without anything at all attached and same deal.

So... I've heard of these Nikon N(F)50 AF cameras being used for prime-focus photography, i.e. sans lens..... so how do you do it? Does anyone know if there is a way to fool Nikon AF cameras into working, albeit without metering, without having an AF lens on?

Thanks for any replies!

Cheers
Chris

Thanks all - I've figured it out. It appears that you simply ignor the error & go straight to "manual" mode, turn AF off and then it fires up. Without an aperture ring (no lens) I'm not sure to expect, but we'll see....

Thanks for looking!

Hi Chris,
I'll be interested in how it works and your results.
I was thinking of a similar thing with my Minolta AF film camera, being AF I alway thought you couldnt use them but if theres a way around it that will be great.

cheers

I'm just popping down to a photo store to buy some 400ASA slide film for tonight Ric. We have a MAS observation night happening at The Oaks. Hopefully I'll get to take some shots. I plan to document every frame taken to build up a database off cause/effect results.

At least I know that the aperture is f/10!

Fun!

(I still LIKE film!)

Yep, film is still cool.
I'd like to use my camera for lunar and planetary work.
Slide film is the best for sure and I just love those dreaded slide nights with a captive audience LOL.

cheers
