I dropped my CCD.......

So as the title suggests.....long story short, feeling like an idiot
The QHY10 dropped on the grass with a bit of a thud, from about 800mm, with a 10mm canon lens mounted on it. Not sure which end hit first, but the lens flexes a lot in the female mount. No stress if the adaptor is broken, more worried about the expensive parts!

Maybe I'm over reacting, but I'm not game to plug it in incase i've damaged something. Any advice?

Erik

I dropped a 5 minute old, just out of the postage box CCD onto a concrete garage floor...

I swore like a sailor, then berated my idiocy for the next 20 minutes.

It didn't do any internal damage, thankfully. Dented aluminium outer case, sheared face plate screws.

I feel your pain. Good luck!

Thanks for the re-assurance Lewis! It's a terrible feeling. I'm sure its ok, just paranoid. I'll sleep on it and test it out in the morning.

CCD cameras are pretty tough Erik.

Looks like the QHY10 CCD plugs into a socket. I would have a look through the window and make sure that the chip is still seated firmly. Then shake it to see if anything rattles. If not, I would try it out. Would expect to have to square up the CCD.

If does not work or you are still worried about hidden damage, Theo knows his stuff.

If it is on you home insurance and also listed as a portable item it will be covered by your house contents insurance at home and as a portable item if you have that in place with your insurance but it cost extra each month.
