CCD angle alignment

Hello everyone,


May be this is a primitive question, so apologies if this subject discussed before.

Why is the focusers and the cameras not have engravings in degrees, minutes? Yeah, rotatable focusers prevent this, however some sticky reference pointer to the scope should be OK?

With mono CCD you'll need multiple nights. This would make alignments much easier and less cropping etc.



Perhaps a DIY 3D print 'collar' with grab-screw will do the trick?


Is there such a thing, or am I missing something

Simple - the tilt adjustment is like that for a telescope mirror - either up/down left/right or 3 pairs of push-pull screws in a triangular pattern. Work out which screw to adjust the tilt.

Nick, sorry I think my spell/grammar check not corrected my accent


What I tried to say is camera rotation not tilt. Pics over many nights and different object require different angle to frame the object. I like a setting-circle stile gadget so each time re-image the same object could set the camera in the same angle. Less cropping later.

You can buy commercial manual rotators with engraved markings on it, like this one from Telescope Express in Germany, landed cost about $100.

The easiest way to get it right IMO is plate solving. I have had my gear apart entirely over the weekend and have just re assembled it all at home. It should be about 5 minutes work with plate solving to get the angle where I want it.


The problem with engraved marks to show you angles is that you have to have them on something that does not move with respect to the sky. So a frac in rings is troublesome as you can rotate everything including the scope, or my SCT which is fixed in relation to the mount but the whole image train cab be rotated in a number of different places between rear cell of the scope and the camera.
