Talking I'm moving to QLD

Morning everyone I will be moving up to the Sunshine Coast from Melbourne on a job offer, starting early August. Anyone around the area to say hi and oogle at the "northern" skies with?

Yeah, I live at Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast.

Oogle? Oogle what? Clouds? Haven't had a clear night worth imaging with for around a month. Overcast like a Melbourne winter day here again today. SERIOUSLY.

I saw Venus and Jupiter here last night for a few minutes. Through the misty cloud...and then it became totally overcast again.

We have decided to rename the Sunshine Coast to Overcast Coast.

Great news Meru, welcome to the sunny state!

Lewis, I consulted weather gods and we will get many nice clear skies at night towards the end next week, shame it is going to be Full Moon....

I was in Brisbane last weekend and even though it was a clear night I could not see many stars, hope the Sunshine coast is better.

Congrats Meru, but don't believe the hype

I've been in Brisbane for just over a week now and other than the days my kit was all boxed up we've had no sunny days and no unspoiled clear nights not living up to the "sunshine" state moniker yet

During the same week, the guys back down in Sydney are reporting the best new Moon night they've had in years

The grass is always greener...

Previous weekend in Brissie, just after the new moon, wasn't too bad neither...http://www.astrobin.com/189183/B/

Meru, I'm sure you will enjoy the change! Just don't expect to get a good coffee on the sunny coast...

Polish coffee is good, but you should try Sunshine Coast water.... makes even Polish grinds taste better (I always reckon Brisbane water tastes like it has soap in it)

Raining again. Ho hum.

Good to hear - are you bringing your 3D printer?? I picked up the masks you made for me today from my office - will let you know how they go in due course.

August - you'll arrive just in time for Astrofest! You'll also have to head out to Leyburn sometime - it's out on the Darling Downs southwest of Toowoomba, but well worth the trip.

600kms round trip from the Sunshine coast.,aint worth the trip IMHO and I have done it a few times.
There's a dark sky site not more than quarter that distance.
Cheers

Haha! You guys are hilarious, thank you for the warm welcome I am looking forward to hopefully meeting you all in person soon Appreciate the live weather updates Lewis I really was hoping Sunshine Coast lives up to its name. Ron, Chris and Glen you're all not helping either! I might sell some of my gear before I move up so hopefully that will dispell the clouds for atleast a few nights

Funny you say don't expect good coffee Slawomir, the HR manager mentioned they have the best coffee on the sunshine coast. Guess I will find out what "best" means soon

David glad they reached ok, feedback would be great. My colleague actually has the printer so unfortunately not, but if demand sustains I definitely consider buying one for myself. Yes I just saw Astrofest will be on!! I am eager to get up there, hopefully will have bought a portable DSLR tracker to try out by then.

Ron yes 600km round trip is quite long, tell me more about this special site of yours

Moving from Melbourne to Melbourne weather? Strange

It's cool tonight - around 12° or so. Was a sunny day, but of course cloud started around 3pm.

The weather fairies are promising a couple of clear nights though, albeit with a full Moon
