M8 - Ha

Had a run of clear nights here, but along with it came perhaps the worst seeing I've ever had here. I saw Ha subs with FWHM over 5", and guiding over 1.2" on my Mach 1...

But then last night it all came good again, very good. I had many subs down to 1.4" and some even down to 1.3"

So my grand hopes of getting ~35hrs on it (probably pointless with such a bright target to be honest) became a mere 6.3hrs but I'm still pleased with the result.

Great image. I didn't pixel peep but the SNR and detail suggests you don't need 35 hours exposure time...

Great detail in there Lee. Having recently done about 2 hours of RGB with a slow F/10 I found it bright enough that I didn't have any issues with signal strength so you're right, 35 hours of Ha may have been a bit of over kill

Astonishingly good. Agree with others. Beautifully sharp and clear, lovely contrast, perfectly processed.

Thanks everyone, I was pretty happy with this data :-) Finally got some RGB too, so I'll post the HaRGB shortly.

Thanks guys... yeah, 35hrs is definitely excessive for M8, but I had a gap in my schedule of interesting galaxies and since I always go somewhat short in terms of integration time I had decided that this time I'd not do that...

Wow Lee,

Great structure in that image!

Really motivates me to try Ha on M8 as well.

Clear skies.
