M42 to Horsehead

I managed to fit both into an APSc frame with the 270mm focal length Sharpstar. It's harder to image both targets together since M42 is much brighter than the Flame/Horsehead.

15x6 minutes, ISO400, Nikon D5600 with L-Enhance filter.

Nice effort to get both in the same frame Tony. Well done. Indeed two very different surface brightness targets. M42 alone is challenging with the trap vs the outer nebulosity. Then throw into the mix the brightness of the Flame vs the gradually fading Ha cloud above the Horsehead and it makes this image quite a challenge. An impressive feat

When I see images like this makes me think about getting a wide field rig.I will probably end up doing wide field when I get to old to lift these heavy mounts and newts around

Thanks guys. I'll try to get a couple more hours to add when the weather improves.

M42's core was blown out but I ran HDR Multiscale Transform in PI and it magically fixed it.
My processing is fairly basic and lights only, no calibration frames.

Absolutely fantastic Tony. Taking what some call 'done to death' targets and combining the two to give them new life. A fiery image fully of energy that flows beautifully. You make it appear as if one could surf the wavy wisps from one nebula to the other. An superb representation of this part of the sky that's well exposed, well framed and well processed, of all your great images, I think this is my favourite.

Thanks, I was thrilled to find that both targets would comfortably fit in the frame. When I can get some more subs I hope to bring out the wispy stuff more.

The beauty of the wider field is that you get to see objects in their surroundings and it doesn't matter if the air is less stable, but I like seeing the galaxies that you longer focal length guys target. My atmosphere is usually unstable.

Setup is quick with the little scope too since PA doesn't need to be especially accurate.
