Charon's mounatin in a moat.

Hi All,
Is it just me or does this mountain look more like a large rock that has slowly bumped into Charon?
I can't get enough of these images. It' kinda fun knowing that they'll keep trickling in for months to come.

Mmmmm. Ice cream.

I get the feeling that there are going to be quite a few unusual geological features revealed by the New Horizons mission. So far away from the sun and yet so many areas that aren't covered in pock marks.

Bring on the photos NASA.

It is terrific!

Now there are mountain ranges similar in size to the Great Dividing Range (only out of rock hard water ice maybe?)that have pock marks right next door. Maybe the mountain ranges are all the rocks collecting at the edge of the glacial crust?

The whole idea of a planet that orbits the sun in a sloppy orbit over 250 odd years is enough to boggle the mind as is. I guess that's why Pluto was demoted.

Feels like home now, we've got the Norgay Montes for Tensing Norgay and Hillary Montes for our Sir Ed.

Wasn't Sir Ed Australian?

I thought all successful New Zealanders ended up being adopted as Aussies

If the mountain rock is darker than the surrounding plains, then it may absorb more heat from the sun and produce a dip around itself because the heat vaporises the nearby plains material.

Note:- this is speculation on my part.
