On This Day

On this day Fourteen years ago I joined iceinspace as the 198th member.
Since then Sixteen Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Six members have joined this company of like minded people.
I have made quite a lot of friends along the way, learnt alot ,and passed on some knowledge myself.
It has been and still is a pleasure to belong to this great website.
Thanks Mike Salway and his merry band of moderators for keeping it going this long and into the future.
Cheers

I wonder how many of the first 200 members who joined are still on iceinspace
If you're one of those just post a quick reply.
Cheers

I would say I would have been one of the originals, but I got banned for speaking my mind then. Re enlisted in 2006.

Well, look at that: we started on the same month. I'm not sure about the date though.

Hi Ron
Same month but I am not sure of the date ...a smidge earlier for me I think as I am 177.
I probably should have been bsnned many times as I have broken the rules on occassion.
I would also take the oppertunity to thank Mike and the team as there have been times when this site has been my only contact with the outside world and with reality.
Although I rate everyone here as close friends unfortunately I have only met four in person.
Without this site I dont know what would have become of me in my darker moments. ..somehow expressing my thoughts here has helped me keep things together when all around me was crumbling.
Without the help from here I dont know what I would have done.
Being really alone os difficult but somehow I felt I was never really alone when I came here.
This os a truely wonderful place and now the only place I visit...
I also ask folk to come forward who have been here a while.
Alex

Hi Alex,I think there are quite a few people who frequent this site as it is a window on the outside world.
The amount of threads over the years where people have conveyed their thoughts and have been comforted by others in their time of need it truly amazing.
Definitely a compassionate and wonderful site we have here.
You have added so much to this site over the years and are missed when you have some down time.
All the best Mate.
PS You're #177 joined 08/03/2005

Thanks Ron
I try to stay quiet a fair bit cause I feel I am crouding the room.
The site is somewhat unique in so far as there are very few spats and folk are usually most decent.
I have difficulty in the real world cause I come across as overbearing and even exhibiting a violent nature and that hurts me so much because I see myself as kind and understanding...anyways it is the way it is...But I am learning how you see yourself is not how others see you...
Must go I am so tired I feel like I am going to pass out.
Alex

Yeah Ron, I think myself and Paul Haese were in the first couple of dozen that joined. Mind you that is a long time ago and a few cells have died since then.

Think I joined late 2004, I remember seeing a post on another astro forum back then from Mike who wrote about a new site/forum he was starting. With broadband internet and digital imaging coming into the fold those early years on IIS was great . Learning planetary imaging with the old ToUcam and seeing other members progress with their imaging was fun. I don't post that much {prefer using the PM function} but the IIS forums have been a fantastic resource over the years, big thanks to the admins and mods for making it a reality.

I’m a little behind beren (#34) at #158 (25 Feb 2005). I was also “lured” from another forum by Mike. It’s still a great little forum despite having grown over the years. The mods have done a fantastic job over the years and thanks to Mojo, IIS has run smoothly with little down time due to his efforts.
