Ioptron CEM60

Hi all looking at potentially upgrading my mount to something much heavier. I’m currently running a HEQ5 and I quite like the CEM60 maybe the EC model if u can convince the Min War and Finance.

What’s going on it?
8” CF F4 Astrograph + qhy16200a mono with 7 CFW

Has anyone used this one? I’m after issues experienced etc.

Cheers
J

The one thing that put me off an iOptron is support - what happens if you need something fixed. I've had things die before.

Even my AZEQ6 reaching the point where some maintenance is needed to deal with wear on the RA clutch and adjust the worms to reduce backlash a tad. Could be DIY, I know.

Google ' Cloudy nights ' and go to the ' Mounts section ' , type in iOptron CEM60 and you will find pages and pages on mostly good reviews on these mounts especially the new EC model .

Brian.

Brian I’m well aware of that - it’s good but there are a few reports of faults.

In my case the AZEQ6 I purchased originally turned out to be faulty and was returned and exchanged for another. Also I don’t assume these things will run forever and may need maintenance or parts at some point.

If I’d had to do that with an iOptron...

There are iOptron dealers in Australia. Perhaps contact them and ask questions about how faults would be handled, etc?
