Unexplained Flash in The Sky

Hi
i was sitting outside with my sister when i saw a bright flash in the sky
it was orange in colour and lasted about 1 second.
my sister who was sitting opposite me saw the reflection of this flash in the window
so it was a high magnitude
my location was
Lat 31 54' 8" South and Long 115 57' 59" East
i couldn't find anything in my area so im interested to know.
the time was between 19:30-9:55 and it was the 21st of March

If the flash was observed as a point of light like a star, it may have been a meteor that was travelling directly towards you. This would appear as a point rather than a trail. Not sure if there are any meteor showers around at the moment?

Other bright objects are Iridium satellites – maybe one of their solar panels or other reflective surfaces caught the Sun just at the right angle and therefore you saw a flash.

Cheers

Dennis

There was an iridium flare for your area atFriday 21st March @ 20:41:29 (Western DST = GMT +9:00 hrs)

Position was 171° South 35° elevation. Mag -2 (as bright as Jupiter gets at is brightest)

Iridium Flash

i Thought it might be and i checked it out but there were none of high enough intensity in my area.plus the timing was wrong.
Maybe it was a meteor though the chances of that and it being so bright seem small.
Thanks

It could have been that Gamma Ray Burst, though I'm not sure if it was visible in southern hemisphere. It quickly went from low magnitude numbers to high magnitude numbers
